EFFECT OF ADSORBENTS ON THE CONDUCTIVITY, ACIDITY AND BARBET OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF BIOETHANOL

SUMMARY: The objective was to evaluate the effect of masses of activated charcoal and diatomaceous earth on the physico-chemical characteristics of conductivity, acidity and Barbet in different types of bioethanol. We evaluated neutral ethanol, fortified, first and second and submitted the masses of 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100 mg of adsorbent. Increasing doses of activated charcoal increased the value of Barbet, however influenced negatively the results of conductivity and acidity, changing the commercial classification of the ethanol. The diatomaceous earth provided little change in the physico-chemical characteristics of conductivity, acidity and Barbet. Fortified ethanol and second showed more significant increases of Barbet, exceeding 460% when subjected to 25 mg of activated charcoal. It is concluded that the activated charcoal increases the value of Barbet of the types of ethanol and should be evaluated economic gains. The diatomaceous earth does not interfere positively in the Barbet, but other studies should be performed to verify the interference on other characteristics of ethanol. Other techniques or sources of activated charcoal must be employed, together, to reduce the value of conductivity and acidity, and increase the Barbet aiming at the improvement of the quality of ethanol which has undesirable parameters of commercialization.

Keywords: ethanol, activated charcoal, diatomaceous earth.
