UTILIZATION OF EUCALYPTUS FOREST RESIDUES FROM THE CELLULOSE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY FOR THERMAL AND ELECTRICAL ENERGY GENERATION.

ABSTRACT: The crisis of fossil fuels that have started in 1970 led the forest companies evaluate the technical and economic viability of rational reusing of forest residues as energy inputs that were until then discarded. The possibility to generate energy from the barks that remain in the forest after harvesting and from forest residues such as small diameter branches of the tree top, was the reason that motivated this work. Monthly fuel consumption and steam generation were obtained from the boilers installed in the manufacturing unit of the company LWARCEL CELULOSE from Lençóis Paulista, as well as steam consumption and the company own power generation (cogeneration). The data was collected from April 2011 to April 2012,. Data also were collected to quantify the barks and forest residues allowed estimate resulting from the harvest of Eucalyptus, their chemical analysis and calorific value. Forest residues were quantified, and their chemical and calorific value were analyzed. The main results showed that the implementation of the use of the barks and forest residues to generate energy represented a gross income of R$ 9.09 x 106 (nine million ninety thousand reais per year), indicating a saving of 84,689.00 t / year in forest biomass acquired from third parties.

KEYWORDS: Eucalyptus forest residues, cogeneration of electricity, forest biomass, calorific value, wood moisture content.
